The Blob comic Completed! (finally)

Here it finally is, the Blob comic, in full color:

The opening panel assumes you know that there is some guy in a studio on earth handing over to Clarissa on the planet Phlam. In the future cameras and Mics come fitted with an Ansible transmitter (1000 bonus points to you if you already know what an Ansible is. If not, check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ansible) which allows for instant communication across the universe.

The rest is pretty self explanatiry. If you read my previous blog entries you will know that the blob is intelligent, but can only interact with objects in it's environment by ingesting them. If it can digest them it dissolves them slowly in it's acidic goo, if not then it excretes them. Clarissa was lucky Griff and Grillo were there to pull her out.

Blob comic update

 I'm pretty far along with the colors on Clarissa's blob encounter. These are the first 4 panels, the 5th one will be revealed upon completion. Still got some touching up to do, shadows and speech bubbles to add, etc, but it's coming along nicely;;)

Pull the other one

Clarissa and Cleavil meet again. In the ensuing cat-fight Cleavil manages to tear off most of Clarissa's clothes. But Clarissa gets the upper hand when she grabs hold of Cleavil's ponytail.

Blob preview

So the winner of my 'Choose Clarissa's next adventure" was her encounter with an alien blob. I have just finished the rough sketch of the story. I decided to take it a bit further than my usual Clarissa picture and turn it into a whole comic page. Once I have inked the final version, I will probably on color the last panel, but I will see how time goes. Still have to figure out what Clarissa is saying, but it's not a very hard story to understand: Space journalist tries to interview blob, blob sucks space journalist into itself, space journalist is rescued by her cameramen, but loses her clothes in the process;;)

Sheeza the Assassin

This is a character design for yet another character in the Clarissa, Griff 'n Grillo universe. Her name is Sheeza and she is a hired assassin.

At some point in the future I see Cleavil hiring her to kill Clarissa. You'll have to wait and see what comes of it.

Sheeza is a Tremelore, a race of humanoids much regarded for their melee and blade fighting skills. She was born not on the planet her race orginates from , but on the prison planet of Skrisk.

Skrisk originally began as a dumping ground for all the unwanted scum in the universe. A barren hostile planet where the chances of survival are close to nothing for anyone stranded there. But the some of the criminals who landed there were strong enough to survive, and they formed a basic, multi-species culture on the planet (albeit with a low rate of survival) . Due to the harsh climate and tough citizenship, anyone who lived, or was born there grew up incredibly tough, and learned the art of fighting and killing as soon as they could walk.

Sheeza was born on Skrisk, the first child born from a crew of Tremelore Assassins (one female and 3 males) who were exiled to the planet for a failed assassination attempt on a planetary ruler. She spent her entire early life learning the assassin's trade.

It was in her late teens that some of the darker forces in the universe began to take notice of Skrisk, and realize what a rich ground it was from which to drawn soldiers, henchmen and mercenaries. As the top assassin on the planet, Sheeza was hired by Cleavil to protect the interests of her evil empire.

Clarissa vs the evil robot (and gravity)

While trying to break into Cleavil's secret TIGLES (Tactical Inter-Galactic Lactic Extracting Syndicate) compound, to investigate what new evil deeds Cleavil is committing, Clarissa and Grillo get caught by one of Cleavil's robotic minions.

The Capchabot 5000 is a non-lethal robot. It is designed to capture trespassers using its vice-like pincers, and then hoist them off the ground to hang helpless until Cleavil and her guards can come along and see what they have caught.

The effects of the sudden reverse in gravity on Clarissa's generous proportions is obvious for all to see. As isual, Griff is torn bewteen rescuing her, and capturing the wardrobe malfunction on video...

Here's a quick sketch I did of Cleavil, in color. Once again I primarily used SAI for the artwork, with some final touches in photoshop. I'm a man who like a curvy lady, so despite her evilness, Cleavil is quite a joy to wrok on. Hope you enjoy;;)

Clarissa Pinup 5

I had a lot of fun with this pinup. It was just a quick one, done entirely in SAI (This genius little program is really growing on me). I decided to get a bit more realistic with the coloring. I'm normally just a flat color kind of guy, with some quick shadows and highlights. But for this one I added a bit more tonal value. I was pretty happy with the result. I might try it again on future projects.

 I was very lucky the other day to get a Christmas present from Cosmicbeholder in the form of my very first Clarissa Griff 'n Grillo fan art. I think fan art is one of the highest compliments someone can pay your artwork, so I always enjoy seeing other people's take on my characters. Check it out:

Faceoff

Clarissa and Cleavil Face-off. Although, as we can expect from two such well endowed ladies, it's more than just a 'face' off.

All Hail the mighty Cleavil!

Clarissa, Griff and Grillo finally have an arch-villain! As you can see from some of my previous posts, I've been developing her for a little while. But I finally feel like I've finalized her look.

Her name is Cleavil. She is an Intermarinian from the the planet Cleft. Intermarines are an amphibious race. They spend most of their time on land, but they have a limited capacity to absorb oxygen from water and can remain submerged for several hours at a time.

Cleavil: and Arch-nemesis is born.

Cleavil is the leader of the Tactical Inter-Galactic Lactic Extracting Syndicate (TIGLES). Ostensibly it exists as a giant milk collection and delivery service across the universe, collecting milk from various lactating creatures in the universe, and then selling it to the weird races that enjoy that sort of thing. This is, naturally, just a cover, it's real purpose is far darker.

TIGLES real interest in 'milking' is on a far larger scale. What it actually does is finds new planets few people, if any, know about and then breaks them down into their most basic chemicals and minerals. It then sells this ill-gotten planetary material on the black-market. In this way it wipes out entire worlds in a very short time, killing untold numbers of unique and undocumented species of living creatures.

Clarissa, a space explorer whose job it is to discover these new species, knows it's up to her to show the universe what TIGLES really is getting up to. Naturally, as the head of TIGLES, Cleavil  has made it her life's mission to capture Clarissa, and stop the truth getting out.
